Fair enough, so that would prevent someone creating a High Elf / Dark elf combo based on lore?
So in theory you could have:

Wood elf, High elf, Pro elf (Union),

vamps?
Orcs, Gobbs, Snots, Ogre, underworld
Skaven, underworld

Lizard - no one wants to play with them?
amazons?
Whilst still great, it's crying out for "some" cross race pollination for the teams lacking lots of variants, perhaps along the lines of dungeonbowl.
I don't envy you working out the special rules (i.e. for every Vamp you need 1 thrall....or would you leave that to the players! A newbie would be gutted hiring that vamp and then wondering why he is booted off the field on turn 2

Really need the concept of racial limitations, compatibility, lore and so on clarified to ensure maximum excitement!
