Scheduling

Postby verouchi » 19 November 2013, 02:47

I like to see a different type of league if you will...

I ran a pretty successful table top league (7 seasons) 30 teams using this very successful method.

Overall league (all teams must play 11 games to qualify for the play offs)

All teams play as an Independent (unless 3 or more teams choose to form a conference within the league).

Commissioner would set a time frame... say 2 months... during that time all players attempt to get in the 11 games.

May never play a team more than twice in a row. And only conference opponents can meet more than once in season.

Conferences:
3 Teams = Must play each opponent 3 times (6 conference games / 5 non conf)
4 Teams = Must play each opponent 2 times (6 conf games / 5 non conf)
5 Teams = Must play each opponent 2 times (8 conf / 3 non conf)
6 Teams = Must play each opponent 2 times (10 conf / 1 non conf)
7 Teams = Must play each opponent 1 time (6 conf / 5 non con)

I'd have to look it up for more details I just remember it worked well... then the confrence champs + at large (best teams after that including conf members) compete in the play off

One of the best things about this format is teams can join whenever they want. If people don't finish it doesn't matter... also if you have a conf you make sure those people play. if not you kick them out the conf at the end of the season.

There will be a start date and and end date to each season followed by a playoffs.

Teams can join the league anytime during its running.

Each team can play up to 11 games each season.

Teams with 11 games will qualify for the play offs (the number of teams in the play offs will be determined by the number of teams in the league.

Types of Play:

Independent - You may play any team at any time in any order but not more than twice in a season.

Conferences - Teams may band together and form conferences.
You may only form a conference at the beginning of the season.
The conference Champion receives an automatic play off bid.
They may not play a non-conf opponent more than once in a season.
To join a conference that already exist members must vote you in. You would not join until the start of the next season once the season starts.
Must elect a Conference Commissioner who will be in charge of running the Conference (and will be part of the Admin for the league):
Conference Sizes:
4 Teams - Must play each team in conference 2 times / and 5 different non-conference opponents
5 Teams - Must play each team in conference 2 times / and 3 different non-conference opponents
6 Teams - Must play each team in conference 2 times / and 1 different non-conference opponents
7 Teams - Must play each team in conference 1 times / and 5 different non-conference opponents
8 Teams - Must play each team in conference 1 times / and 4 different non-conference opponents
9 Teams - Must play each team in conference 1 times / and 3 different non-conference opponents
10 Teams- Must play each team in conference 1 times / and 2 different non-conference opponents
11 Teams - Must play each team in conference 1 times / and 1 different non-conference opponents
12 Teams - Must split into 2 divisions play each team in your division 1 time and 3 members of the other division 1 time / and 3 different non-conference opponents
