[Solved] Are agility rolls out by 1? (ie. +4 instead of +3)

Postby cdwat » 17 August 2014, 01:46

I'm playing a Campaign on hard & all agility rolls for both myself & the AI are out by 1.
eg. AG3 dodging into square with no tackle zones is needing 4+ (should be 3+).
This applies to all dodging, & picking up the ball (passing too I think).

I've played 6 games and it's been consistent on all of them.
The AI is not adjusting accordingly, so it's fairly game-breaking.
Is anyone else experiencing this?

EDIT: apparently I couldn't interpret the log. But at least I'm not as dumb as the AI!

Check the log: it adds a modifier to the roll instead of adjusting the target.

What Dode said.
And if you actually look at the rules, you'll see that an AG3 test is passed on a 4+ (the AG + the pass = 7), but the convention amongst players has been to modify the target number (4+ +1 modifier = 3+), whereas the correct way as written should be "roll a 3, add 1 = 4 - a pass". Neither way is wrong, they both give the same result.
Galak 3:16 says "There is a point in time that a player really should read the rulebook."

Nope, I was talking about a 0TTD on a Blitz! using TTM.

With passing it becomes more important to do it the "right" way.

Thanks guys, I embarrassingly stand corrected
Feel free to amend the thread title further to prevent confusion.

Does it show that I'm a tabletop player?

ps. fwiw, I reckon modifying pre-roll is more clear.
Why is it more important for passing?

Common mistake, and entirely understandable ;)

I believe the point Dode was making here is that when the pass radii is displayed, it shows a +1 for a quick pass, 0 short, -1 long, -2 long bomb.

Therefore the modifiers are expressed as modifiers to the dice roll rather than the target roll required and hence performing the calculation the 'right way' is consistent with what's displayed.

Having said all that my mind tends to work the other way in wanting to know what the target roll required is so I can visualise whether I've got a 50/50, 1 in 3, 2 in 3, etc on my hands.

For passing it's a fumble on a modified or unmodified 1.

There was a pretty strong lobby do the this way back when the game was very first released. It makes the rolls more easy to followand allows checking if the dice if people want to (which they did).
