The Pidpad 50 game challenge

Postby Pidpad » 27 January 2012, 23:42

This will probably seem like a stupid undertaking (it is) and make little sense, but I'll have a go anyway.

First the rules (that I follow):

1 team of each race.
Each team needs to play 50 games
If a team has played 4 games no team on 5 games can spin (that means they'll keep an even pace so the BBmanager league in question is relevant through the challenge).
No restarting teams (not even if 3 positionals get killed in the first game).
No abandoning games.
The teams needs to be in FOL so stats can be compared.

If either I or my opponent should disconnect the game only counts if it was decided anyway (so if I crash while having a solid lead the game wont count, the same if I'm being soundly beaten and my opponent crashes).
It's the BBmanager league that holds the correct number of games for each team, whatever the game says isn't necessarily true (for the above reason, but I rarely crash, just goblins being silly).

---------------------

So why am I doing this? Well, I did the same thing back in BB1 with the 9 teams available there and I did actually finish that off (results of that in post 2).
I like stats and tables and such, so this seems like a good way to collect some.
Also, it's fun and will probably make me a better coach in the long run.
Crazy builds are encouraged, back in BB1 I had a Troll Slayer with Sure Hands and Hail Mary Pass. He wasn't great, but he turned 3 games in my favour. (Probably cost me a few as well by not having the correct skills).

The real question is how to present standings.
Normally I'd link a BBmanager table, but that will be way large as it'll include all my opponents as well (and there will be quite a few after 1000 games).
Typing in all the teams at odd intervals seems like an idea, but I'm likely to forget to keep things updated as much as I'd like.
Still, I'll post the standings now and then (after complete matchdays).

For anyone interested in the current standings they can be found at: http://94.23.239.117/BloodBowlManager.W ... lang=en-US

Results of the challenge in BB1
(W-D-L)

Wood Elf: 41-4-5 (Insane team, both WDs with St4 for example)
Lizards: 37-10-3 (at that point I had lizards as my main team in OCC)
Dark Elf: 35-6-9
Dwarf: 34-8-8
Skaven: 33-8-9
Orc: 32-7-11
Human: 30-10-10
Chaos: 30-7-13 (No claw or mighty blow. Everyone who got MB just died the next game)
Goblin: 22-6-22

Now for the LE standings

After MD7 (that is all teams having played 7 games)

Dwarf: 6-1-0
Norse: 5-1-1
Amazons: 5-1-1
Nurgle: 5-1-1
Human: 5-1-1
Necromantic: 5-1-1
Khemri: 4-2-1
Chaos: 4-2-1
Wood Elf: 4-2-1
Orcs: 4-2-1
Skaven: 4-1-2
Lizards: 4-1-2
Halfling: 4-0-3
Vampire: 4-0-3
Undead: 3-3-1
High Elf: 3-2-2
Dark Elf: 3-1-3
Ogre: 3-1-3
Elf: 3-1-3
Goblin: 2-0-5

Top 3 TDs
Skaven (21)
Wood Elf (15)
Dwarf (14)

Top 3 Cas
Norse (19)
Wood Elf (17)
Ogre (16)

In the future I'll try to include such things as leading scorer (player) etc, but as I'm halfway through MD8 it'd be rather annoying to figure out who did what in the middle of a round.

Good luck! I'm not saying you're crazy, but if you average a game per day, this will take almost three years. This is true dedication to gaming, I'm impressed.

(Also impressed that you have a winning record with Halflings. Either you're super lucky or playing hundreds of games makes you a better player. Who knew??)

Also, a bbmanager league would work, I think the table cuts off at the first 50 or 100 or so results. Your teams will be the first 20 "hits" just because they'll have played the most games in that league.

A bbmanager league would be rather large, even if it cuts off at 50 :D
More than halfway through round 8, so over 15% of all the games played.

The halflings won their last match as well. I managed to get a lucky defensive TD on turn 8 and a touchback on the kickoff at the start of the 2nd half. Shrubbery my treeman held on to the ball for the entire half, he actually managed 1 square into the opposing teams half before getting rooted, despite the use of a re-roll.
They've even beaten a dwarf team! I don't quite know how, but I guess I got lucky :D
The plan is to use petty cash for a master chef when the matchup looks favourable (facing nurgle at low TV for example).
I enjoy coaching halflings, they are fun.

I'm pretty sure Dwarf teams which lose to Halflings are required by the rules to disband - maybe that's not in the official rulebook but it has to be in a FAQ or a White Dwarf article or something. Do you remember the team name? We need to mock them relentlessly if they ever try to play that team again.

I don't remember, but both my ingame match history and BBmanager does.
I'll spare the coach in question the humiliation by being named on these boards though :D

Lunch Bunch beat Beard Storm 1-0 on 27/12/11 finishing at 02:30 GMT+1. The 'flings took 6 cas, the dorfs took none. Both teams started the match at 1110TV. The coach name you can find for yourself ;)

...back in the '90's when I was playing table top I had an undead team who had a... 18? game winning streak. Including back to back blood bowl trophies...

Anyway, the first game os season three I draw a 1/2ling game and...

LOST!

I never lived it down.

Beware Blood Bowls fans! On any given Sunday, Nuffle will strike to make even the most
Impossible things, possible. Like a halfling team beating a dwarf team.
The ultimate sin of Nuffle is for a head coach to conceed a match. Nuffle will curse your block dice with skulls and number dice with ones if he does not get his full 16 turns of dues.
