Voghen pt 2

Postby Fashbinder » 15 April 2016, 06:23

Overzealous forum mod decided to lock a thread without providing closure of substance or clarification.

Here is a screencap of afk threat: http://imgur.com/bQFfyc8

Here's a vod of it happening to someone else: https://www.twitch.tv/fashbinder_/v/60672723

Would be swell if Netheos could state if this behaviour is ok, and then the consequences for it.

People like that should be banned imo (from the WCQ if they do it once, from all online play if they do it again); that kind of stuff really breaks the tournament, both in terms of win chances and TD differential. If you commit to a game, you commit to a game. "I have no time to waste" he wouldn't have said that if he was winning. What a douche.

That's what's broken about all online play though. Yes, you can ban him from online play, but then he just creates a new account, and comes back angrier and griefier. Unless you can block his IP completely. There is a difference between someone like Burned, and someone who just stops playing. Yes, both give up massive TV differentials, but at least you can make an argument that Burned is "trying" - he's just playing his own game. And if we start banning people that play like an idiot, you're opening a door for more vague rules you can't enforce fairly.

However, in this case, with screen cap and video proof, it's obvious this was bad manners, gave an unfair advantage to a player, and intentionally broke one of the more plain rules of the WC by offering to make a deal to skip turns. If the admins of the WC aren't going to enforce their own rules, what's the point of the WC anyway? There is a lot of grey going on in the WC, but this one is pretty black and white.

Accounts are linked to steam accounts. Those can be blocked.

That's good to know... if they're playing via Steam. Or you could just buy a Russian version for a $1 not connected to Steam.

I think even those are connected to stream. Never tried one but since the friendly mechanism is via steam accounts I'd be surprised.

So if this kind of behaviour is against the rules, I have to report another player for this. There is even a bit of spoken text from me in english stating how I handled it. I really appreciate the effort Cyanide is making with the WC - but I have to say that the community and the way it is handling the poor to not existing ruleset of the WC is disappointing compared to fumbbl, for example. Sure, the format of the open league is done in a suboptimal way and I'm "unlucky" to have a family and not being able to choose one of the leagues... But people are ruining the competetive fun to be had in a WC.

Right now luck is way more important than skill. Which is the opposite of what I was expecting. I'm pouring serious hours into the seasons and I feel that I waste a lot of time on this WC. Please consider our criticism for the next WC, Cyanide. I'm not only a customer, but also (though very small) a youtuber and twitcher. We can only showcase what is given to us, not the idealised situation. I'd love to showcase a game that I'm really fond of for over two decades now. You want to make money off this franchise, that's fair. Please back this effort up with more consideration about the fun people are to have. because these are the next customers - or not.

If I was a new player and was thrown into this WC - I'd quit the game rather soon. It has a steep learing curve, it is hard to master, a single mistake will loose you the game against a good coach. Risk management, tactical thinking and good analytical skills trump the luck that is required. At least it should be this way. Ok, rambling ended, this deviated quickly...
