How are the finals going to work?

Postby SquirrelDude » 10 May 2016, 18:58

So it has already been announced that the finals to the world cup are going to be a best of 3, but how exactly is that going to work? Are injuries and SPP going to carry over between matches, in which case teams could theoretically get diced by cas in the first game and then have no chance to win? Are they just going to be friendly matches, in which case how will you prevent coaches from buying wizards every game? What exactly is the plan here

Bo3 is 2(3) consecutive regular matches, injuries and all.

Semifinals and final only (and a match for the 3rd place as well). Not the whole play-off.

Best of 3 with perms... Would be funny if a killteam focused the first on mass killing, just to win the 2nd and 3rd. =D

I'm a huge stream monster when it comes to professional Fighting Games (such as Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat) and they have ALWAYS played best of 3 in matches leading up to the quarter/semi/grand finals and then best of 5 in the grand finals. That way, the better player generally wins and the "random" or lesser player loses.

It happens very often that the better player will let the weaker player reveal their tendencies/style/gameplan during the first match, and use that to "download" the opponent at which point they then adapt/adjust and shutdown all the options and go on to win matches 2 and 3 (and onwards).

Of course, I would say that Fighting Games are much more methodical, calculated and skill based than Bloodbowl because there is absolutely no random number generation involved but the idea is always the same - the better player wins in the long run.

But then again, even the NFL uses a Best of 1 playoff system and since Bloodbowl is a turn based representation of American Gridiron with fantasy elements, it could also be argued that it is truer to the source if it retained a best of 1 format?

Semi-finals, grand final and 3rd/4th place decider matches will be in Best Of 3 and broadcasted live on Twitch.
Are injuries and SPP going to carry over between matches?
Yes.

Blood Bowl 2 is far longer than Fighting games. The World Cup Play Off will feature 4-min turn length, meaning that a game can last far beyond 1h. Moreover, you can expect that the Coaches will use all their reflexion time during the last matches.

A BO3 in BB2 with 4-min turn length could reach 4h, and a BO5 more than 6 hours. That's simply too long for the players and the livestream.

The 2 last rounds (semi-finals + grand finals + 3rd/4th place decider match).

Yes, full commentary. The broadcasters are yet to be announced.

Does this mean the 2 or 3 matches are expected to be played back-to-back?
