The OFL Franchise League congratulates Kal_Durak for winning the Season 7 Franchise Trophy. His 5th-seeded AFC team, The Hateful Dead, defeated the WFC representative Green Spades (Nurgle) coached by two-time champion Damek 2-0 in the championship match.

The Necromantic squad may have entered the playoffs as a wildcard team, but with one of the highest payrolls in the league they were anything but an underdog. The Hateful Dead posted an amazing 12-1-3 record on the season, missing the division title by a mere 1 standings point to rival Brackish Brawlers (Lizardmen). Led by star Bob Weirwolf (Werewolf) and one of the top rushers in the league in Jawbone Coffin (Ghoul), The Hateful Dead carved their way to the AFC title with narrow, hard-fought wins over A Nightmare on Elf Street (Dark Elf), Brackish Brawlers, and Freaks From Space (Skaven) in the playoffs.

The team also earned honors for Most KOd opponents in a season, Most Deaths dealt in a single match, Most Tackles in a single match and the vaunted Golden Scimitar sponsorship trophy for being the most violent team on the season (7 Deaths, 53 Casualties, 59 KOs, 130 Stuns)

Other OFL sponsors also announced their honors:

- The Mithril Javelin awarded its trophy to Freaks From Space (coached by Bob152) for being the top offensive team of the season with 37 touchdowns, 35 passes, 39 receptions, and 1598 total yards.

- The Iron Curtain awarded its trophy to Brackish Brawlers (coached by Darken-Rahl) for being the top defensive team of the season with 48 tackles, 614 yards against, and giving up only 5 touchdowns.

- The Star Players Organization announced that Hack Enslash was the most hired star player on the season. Participating in 10 matches, the chainsaw-wielding skeleton amassed 2 MVP awards, despite accumulating no official casualties and only 5 KOs, and 15 Stuns. (official stats do not track fouls)

The OFL's Franchise league is only one part of our community. A large section of games occur through the Old World Football Tournament League (OFTL). The OFTL is the community open league, designed around pick-up games and variety of tournaments. The OFTL features persistent stat tracking and a dynamic tournament generator open to all coaches. Here are some of the latest happenings in the OFTL:

Featured Tournament: OFTL INVITATIONAL: NOVEMBER 2012 "Movmeber"

Image

TrickIce has invigorated the monthly OFTL Invitational Series, adding themes for each month. The next tournament to arrive will be November's Movember Invitational. Do you have a pair? Do you like beards? Well if you like your "sack", grow a beard in support of a healthy "sack" All bearded races welcome!!(Dwarves, Chaos Dwarves, Norse, and Humans) This, and 99% of OFTL Tournaments, is open to anyone who wishes to enter an exclusively OFTL team. This is a great tournament for anyone new to the OFL/OFTL community, so make a new Blood Bowl team for the OFTL and sign up for this tournament today!

Tournament Wrap-Up: OFTL INVITATIONAL: OCTOBER 2012 "Dead Rising"

Image

"Dead Rising" - The dead and everything supernatural love this month as they can roam around with no questions asked. The Humans know better, and are out for the hunt! Human, Undead, Necromantic, Vampire, Khemri, and don't forget the Goblins!! This tournament is nearing the finale, almost all semi-final teams have been set. One of the match-ups will be between Gym-Bo's blood sucking lawyers Biteburg, Wingle & Batson against up and coming coach Michael's undead Bad Touch! The other semi-final match-up will be between TrickIce's successfull Dead Nation, winners of the Prestige Open 2.1 and the von Carstein Cup, and whichever team wins the second-round Necromancer match between veteran bob152's Dead Things and A que molo, coached by Viajero, one of OFTL's newest coaches. Who will be the champion of this spooky showdown?

That concludes this issue of the OFTL Update. Next time we will look at the on-going Invitational Series and maybe highlight any other notable tournaments. Our OFTL Submitter has now been updated to track OFTL stats for the new teams added by Chaos Edition. Try out these new teams and join an OFTL tournament, like the Newbie Team Tourney VIII, open to any team with 1 or less games and 1000 or less team value. See you on the pitch!

The OFTL is a great way to get familiar with the OFL Community. You can play as frequently or infrequently as you like. You can play the occasional pick-up game by finding other coaches in the chatbox on the forums, sign up for a tournament and compete for the championship title, or get involved in one of the mini-leagues (Round-Robin, Iron Coach, etc.) organized outside of the tournament system by enthusiastic OFTL coaches. Any team participating within the OFTL much be created solely for OFTL competition and may not play in any matches outside of the OFTL.

The OFL's franchise league is considering expanding to 40 teams, adding 8 openings to our coaching roster, beginning with its 9th season. Interested coaches are encouraged to join our forums, add their name to the waiting list there, and then become active in the OFL community to be considered for one of the openings.

The franchise league is patterned after the NFL. Coaches build franchises, which are organized into two conferences, and compete over 16-game regular seasons and a 4-round playoff. Although we have 100% player persistence, we break up our seasons into 3-season eras, resetting franchises at the start of each era for coaches to rebuild, develop new rookies, and hire previous-era players.

Games are played weekly via the in-game LAN (Direct IP) connection option. The LAN option allows us to move all of the team management aspects to our own server. This allows several benefits, but it boils down to more control over our league and teams. Highlights include:
  • Greater administrative control over disconnects and forfeits
  • Total team and player control
  • Robust stat tracking, team/player awards
  • All 56 Star Players
  • Chaos Pact and Slann
  • Glittering Prizes
Although we are primarily a NA league, we welcome coaches from all over who have the scheduling flexibility to accommodate.

The OFL Franchise League congratulates Bob152 and his AFC 5th-seeded Freaks From Space (Skaven) for winning the Season 8 Franchise Trophy in a thrilling overtime match against the WFC's 4th-seeded Terrors of Tarantino (Chaos), coached by Gym-Bo. Backed by legendary star players, Fezglitch and Glart Smashrip Jr., hired mercenaries, and even a league-sanctioned Wizard, the battered Skaven squad fought tooth and nail to overcome their frightening Chaos opponent, eeking out a 2-1 victory. Fans were thrilled by dramatic shifts in momentum and surprising feats of heroics by the most unlikely of players, including Grimlock, a scrappy Lineman riddled with injuries who fought bravely against some of the league's most violent players, Nhicut, a mercenary Gutter Runner who managed the tying score, and the miraculous King Zarkon, a Lineman who became an instant fan favorite after making the improbable winning score.

This was the Freaks From Space second playoff appearance, and perhaps Bob152's finest coaching work, as he overcame a league leading 14 deaths, 68 casualties, 93 KOs, and 160 stuns to post an impressive 8-4-4 regular season record and a league leading 37 touchdowns. His path to the championship wasn't any easier, as the Skaven squad had to post hard fought wins against some of the AFC's elite in Nightmare From Elf Street (Dark Elf), and the top two seeds in the Brackish Brawlers (Lizardmen) and Defenders of the Sidhe (High Elf).

Other OFL sponsors also announced their honors:

- The Golden Scimitar awarded its trophy to Pink Elephants on Parade (coached by Timdog) for being the most violent team of the season with 5 killed, 83 casualties, 78 KOs, and 118 stuns.

- The Mithril Javelin awarded its trophy to Got Wood (coached by Hammertime) for being the top offensive team of the season with 36 touchdowns, 44 passes, 48 receptions, and 1606 total yards.

- The Iron Curtain awarded its trophy to season 6 champion Stench of De Feet (coached by Wildfire40) for being the top defensive team of the season with 33 tackles, 690 yards against, and giving up 10 touchdowns over 16 games.

- The Star Players Organization announced that Helmut Wulf was the most hired star player on the season. Participating in 21 matches, the chainsaw-wielding human amassed 1 MVP award, 9 KOs, and 31 Stuns. (official stats do not track fouls)

Relive the excitement of the OFL Franchise League's 8th season right from our website. The replays from every game are available to download and view.
